Frissiras Museum, the only museum of contemporary European painting in Greece, was inaugurated on December 2000. It is housed in an elegant neoclassical building of the 1850s, which is located in Plaka (Monis Asteriou 3) and it was fully renovated by the Frissiras family, in order to meet the latest museum standards. The museum aims to support contemporary European painting, as well as to identify and present emerging creators and artistic trends. Frissiras Museum organizes group exhibitions of Greek and European artists, from its collections, as well as important solo retrospective exhibitions of established European painters. Frissiras Museum’s publications constitute an integral part of its identity. Every exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue, which includes scientific texts, thus contributing in the listing and documentation of the museum’s activities.
