A paddle is a wooden board with a handle used for flattening glass, particularly the base or foot of a vessel. A paddle becomes charred with use against the hot glass. Occasionally, a glassmaker’s assistant will protect the glassmaker from excess radiant heat by using the paddle as a shield. (EN)
Une pagaie est une planche de bois avec une poignée utilisée pour aplatir le verre, en particulier la base ou le pied d'un récipient. Une pagaie se carbonise en l'utilisant contre le verre chaud. De temps en temps, l'assistant d'un verrier protégera le verrier de la chaleur rayonnante excessive en utilisant la palette comme bouclier. (FR)
