Η κωμόπολη των Καλαβρύτων στα 1910. Στο κέντρο του πολεοδομικού ιστού ξεχωρίζει η εκκλησία της «Κοίμησης της Θεοτόκου». Το νεόδμητο τότε Δημοτικό Σχολείο φαίνεται σχετικά απομακρυσμένο, ενώ ο σιδηροδρομικός σταθμός σηματοδοτεί το πέρας των Καλαβρύτων προς βορρά (άκρο δεξιά στη φωτογραφία). Η πόλη γνωρίζει τη μέγιστη άνθισή της την περίοδο του μεσοπολέμου (1923-1940). Αυτήν την περίοδο αναπτύσσεται τόσο οικονομικά, όσο πολιτιστικά και κοινωνικά. Είναι ηλεκτροφωτισμένη και διαθέτει δίκτυο ύδρευσης και άρδευσης. Κατά τους καλοκαιρινούς μήνες η Φιλαρμονική με όπερες όπως, Rigolletto, Traviata, Cavalleria Rusticana.-ταξιδεύει μελωδικά τους Καλαβρυτινούς στην κεντρική πλατεία και στις αίθουσες του ξενοδοχείου Χελμός τους ψυχαγωγεί με βραδινές χοροεσπερίδες. Στους δρόμους και τα καφενεία της πόλης συγκεντρώνονται άνθρωποι του πνεύματος και του επιχειρηματικού κόσμου που ελκύονται από το δροσερό κλίμα και τον πολιτιστικό οργασμό της πόλης. Τον χειμώνα είναι το θέατρο που διασκεδάζει τους Καλαβρυτινούς, με την «Γκόλφω» και την «Εσμέ». Τόση είναι η πολιτιστική άνθιση πριν τον πόλεμο που τα Καλάβρυτα αποκαλούνται «μικρό Παρίσι» της επαρχίας.

The town of Kalavryta in 1910. At the heart of the urban fabric stands prominent the Church of Dormition of the Mother of God. The recently erected Primary school seems somewhat remote, while the railway station is at the edge of Kalavryta to the north seen on the right edge of the photograph). The town flourishes during the Interwar period 1923 t o1940. During this period, it’s not only the economy that thrives, but also culture and society. Kalavryta is electrically lit and maintains water supply and irrigation systems. During summertime, the Philharmonic Orchestra enchants the locals in the central plaza, performing extracts from Rigoletto, Traviata or Cavalleria Rusticana, or entertains them in the ball rooms of the Chelmos hotel with cotillions. In the town streets and cafes, intellectuals and businessmen, gather attracted by the cultural fervor of the town and the sunny weather. In the winter, theater provides the main entertainment with the plays “Golfo” and “Hesme”. The cultural prosperity in the prewar period is such, that Kalavryta has been nicknamed the little Paris of the provinces.
