Description

Κρητικό μαχαίρι. Το θηκάρι είναι μεταλλικό με ανάγλυφο διάκοσμο στην επιφάνειά του. Στο μέσο περίπου φέρει επένδυση από μπλε βελούδο. Στο πάνω μέρος έχει προσαρτηθεί μικρή αλυσίδα με έξι φλουριά. Η λαβή είναι μεταλλική σε μορφή κάλυκα με ανάγλυφο φυτικό διάκοσμο. Ο προφυλακτήρας του χεριού απολήγει σε διακρυόσχημα στελέχη με εγχάρακτα διακοσμητικά μοτίβα. Τα μαχαίρια αποτελούσαν αναπόσπαστο κομμάτι της ανδρικής κρητικής φορεσιάς. (EL)

Cretan knife. The scabbard is made of metal and has raised decorations on its surface. Around the middle, it is lined with blue velvet. The top has a small chain with six coins attached to it. The handle is made of metal and shaped like a calyx with raised vegetal decoration. The hand guard ends in two teardrop-shaped stems with engraved decorative motifs. Knives were an integral part of the Cretan costume of men. (EN)
