Description

Κρητικό μαχαίρι. Το θηκάρι είναι μεταλλικό με ανάγλυφο διάκοσμο στην επιφάνειά του. Στο μέσο φέρει επένδυση από κόκκινο βελούδο. Στο πάνω μέρος έχει προσαρτηθεί μικρή αλυσίδα για ανάρτηση. Περιμετρικά φέρει μεταλλικό περίγραμμα. Η λαβή είναι μεταλλική σε μορφή κάλυκα με διακοσμητικά μοτίβα. Τα μαχαίρια ήταν αναπόσπαστο κομμάτι της ανδρικής κρητικής φορεσιάς. (EL)

Cretan knife. The scabbard is made of metal and has raised decorations on its surface. The middle is lined with red velvet. The top has a small suspension chain attached to it. There is a metallic border around the perimeter. The handle is made of metal and shaped like a calyx with decorative motifs. Knives were an integral part of the Cretan costume of men. (EN)
