WOMEN’S VEST (KONTOSI) OF THE TRADITIONAL COSTUME OF ALEXANDREIA WITH A BLUE SAYIAS

Κοντόσι- κοντό γιλέκο παραδοσιακής γυναικείας φορεσιάς με μπλε σαγιά από την Αλεξάνδρεια (Ρουμλούκι) Ημαθίας. Φέρει κυκλική λαιμόκοψη με όρθιο γιακά και κατακόρυφο άνοιγμα μπροστά. Στο μπροστινό άνοιγμα, τον γιακά και τις άκρες των μανικιών φέρει μία σειρά χρυσό γαϊτάνι, ενώ γύρω από τη μέση δύο. Στον γιακά και τον γύρο της μέσης φέρει πλούσιο χρυσό κέντημα με φυτικά μοτίβα. Στο πίσω μέρος, στην πλάτη χαμηλά, φέρει επιπλέον χρυσοκέντητο διακοσμητικό στοιχείο. Στον γιακά και το μπροστινό άνοιγμα έχει προστεθεί γούνινη επένδυση, ενώ εσωτερικά φέρει πολύχρωμη φόδρα. Το χρυσοκέντητο κοντόσι το φορούσαν οι νέες κοπέλες και οι νύφες.

Kontosi – Short vest of the women’s traditional costume from Alexandreia (Roumlouki), Imathia, with a blue sayias. It has a round neckline with a stand-up collar and a vertical front opening. It is embellished with a row of gold cord on the front opening, on the collar and on the edges of the sleeves, and with two rows of cord around the waist. On the collar and around the waist, it is richly embroidered with gold vegetal motifs. On the lower back, it has an additional decorative detail embroidered in gold. Fur lining has been added to the collar and to the front opening, and the inside is lined with colourful fabric. The gold-embroidered kontosi was worn by young women and brides.
