Πλακίδιο από πηλό στο οποίο απεικονίζεται θεότητα από αρχαϊκό ναό σε εισέχον πλαίσιο, που ακολουθεί την ανάπτυξη του θέματος. Σχετίζεται με αρχιτεκτονικά κατάλοιπα του μοναδικού αρχαϊκού, μέχρι στιγμής, ναού στη Μεσσηνία, που έφερε στο φως η αρχαιολογική σκαπάνη κατά τη διάρκεια των ανασκαφών στην Π.Ο.Τ.Α του Ρωμανού. Ο σημαντικός αριθμός των διάσπαρτων πήλινων πλακιδίων με ανάγλυφες παραστάσεις θεάς στον τύπο της «Ποτνίας Θηρών» (γυναικεία θεότητα – προστάτιδα των δυνάμεων της φύσης, της αναπαραγωγής και του κυνηγιού) που συγκέντρωσαν τόσο οι ανασκαφές, όσο και η επιφανειακή έρευνα οδήγησαν τους ερευνητές στην υπόθεση της ύπαρξης ενός υπαίθριου ιερού, πιθανότατα αφιερωμένου στη θεότητα που υμνούν τα αναθηματικά πλακίδια. Οι αρχαιολόγοι πιθανολογούσαν την ύπαρξη ενός παραποτάμιου ιερού, το οποίο εντέλει ιχνηλάτησαν στις όχθες του ποταμού Σέλα. (EL)
Clay tablet on which is depicted a female deity surrounded by an indented frame. It is related to the an archaic temple, unique, so far, in Messenia, which was discovered during the excavations at Romanos for the construction of the Costa Navarino hotel complex. The considerable number of scattered clay tablets with similar depictions of female deity in the “Potnia Theron” type, i.e. mistress of the animals and nature, led to the hypothesis that a rural sanctuary dedicated to the deity depicted on the tablets was nearby. The archaeologists believed that such a sanctuary would be near the river and they finally did discover it on the banks of the river Selas. (EN)
