Η Αλις Κόμπερ, Αμερικανίδα ουγγρικής καταγωγής, φιλόλογος και γλωσσολόγος, ήταν αυτή που έκανε το πρώτο αποφασιστικό βήμα προς την ερμηνεία της Γραμμικής Β'. Άρχισε να μελετά μανιωδώς τις πινακίδες της Κνωσού, φτιάχνοντας ένα σύστημα από διάτρητες καρτέλλες για να αποδώσει φωνητική αξία στα σύμβολα της Γραμμικής Β'.Το πρωτότυπο αυτό σύστημα ταξινόμησης συμβόλων προήγαγε σημαντικά την κατανόηση της Γραμμικής Β´.

Alice Kober, an American of Hungarian stock, philologist and linguist, was the one who took the decisive step towards the interpretation of Linear B'. She started to study frantically the Cnossos tablets, making a system of perforated cards in order to attribute phonetic value to the symbols of Linear B'.
