Η αρχαιολογική σκαπάνη στην Π.Ο.Τ.Α Ρωμανού έφερε στο φως τα κατάλοιπα ενός πρωτοελλαδικού οικισμού (3200-2200 π.Χ.) έκτασης τουλάχιστον 40 στρεμμάτων. Οι οικίες είναι ευρύχωρες και ορθογώνιες ενώ ο ρυμοτομικός σχεδιασμός φαίνεται καλός, με δρόμους, πηγάδια και εργαστήρια για την κάλυψη των αναγκών των κατοίκων, μεταξύ αυτών και εργαστήριο Χαλκού, το μόνο σε όλη την Πελοπόννησο μέχρι στιγμής. Το εργαστήριο ήταν προσεκτικά σχεδιασμένο, έτσι ώστε να εκμεταλλεύεται την ένταση του αέρα για τη μέγιστη απόδοση της φωτιάς. Βρέθηκαν ίχνη από σκωρίες καθώς και πήλινες χοάνες με σκωρίες κολλημένες επάνω. Επιπλέον, σε άλλο τμήμα του εργαστηρίου θα πρέπει να γινόταν επεξεργασία οψιανού, καθώς βρέθηκαν πολυάριθμα εργαλεία από το υλικό αυτό, το οποίο ήταν εισαγόμενο, πιθανότατα από τις Κυκλάδες. (EL)
Archaeological research at P.O.T.A Romanou revealed the remains of an Early Helladic settlement (3200-2200 π.Χ.) at least 40 acres in extent. The houses are large and rectangular whereas the town planning suggests the existence of streets, wells and workshops for covering the needs of the inhabitants. Among these workshops was one for producing copper; the workshop was carefully designed in order to take advantage of the intensity of the air for maximizing the fire. There were traces of slags as well as clay funnels with slags stuck on them. Furthermore, in another part of the workshop there must have taken place processing of obsidian, as several tools made of this imported (from the Cyclades) material were discovered. (EN)
