Στιγμιότυπο από τις ανασκαφές του Σουηδικού Αρχαιολογικού Ινστιτούτου στην ακρόπολη της Μάλθης με επικεφαλής τον Natan Valmin. Ο Βαλμίν άρχισε να ανασκάπτει τους θολωτούς τάφους της Μάλθης το 1926. Την επόμενη χρονιά ξεκίνησε την ανασκαφή στην ακρόπολη, η οποία συνεχίστηκε το 1929, το 1933 και το 1934. Αποκαλύφθηκε ο οικισμός με το τείχος που τον περιέβαλλε και διαπιστώθηκε ότι επρόκειτο για Μεσοελλαδικό οικισμό με διάρκεια ζωής ως την Ύστερη Μυκηναϊκή περίοδο. Ωστόσο κάποια νεολιθικά ευρήματα πιστοποιούν την ανθρώπινη παρουσία εκεί την περίοδο αυτή.

Scene from the excavations of the Swedish Archaeological Institute at Malthi under the direction of Natan Valmin. Valmin started excavating the tholos tombs of Malthin in 1926. In 1927 he started excavating the acropolis and continued in 1929, 1933 and 1934. The settlement and the surrounding walls were discovered and it was stated that it was dated in the Middle Helladic Period going down to the Late Mycenaean period, although some Neolithic finds attested human presence also in that period.
