      "@value" : "Theofilos' work, exuberant and diverse, is distinguished by the immediacy of its compositions and its popular character. The themes of his works include religious scenes, which are influenced by Byzantine iconography, historical scenes, mythological themes, portraits of heroes of antiquity and of the 1821 Revolution, landscape paintings, and scenes of theatrical scenes. He sought the models for his compositions in popular and religious iconography, in old engravings and lithographs, in photographs and postcards. A key element of his works is colour, which is vivid and intense. He captures every detail of the subject that he considers characteristic, without concern for the rendering of perspective and the traditional values of academic painting."

Η θεματολογία των έργων του περιλαμβάνει θρησκευτικές σκηνές, οι οποίες φέρουν επιρροές από τη βυζαντινή εικονογραφία, ιστορικές σκηνές, μυθολογικά θέματα, προσωπογραφίες ηρώων της αρχαιότητας και της Επανάστασης του 1821, τοπιογραφίες και ηθογραφικές σκηνές. Αναζήτησε τα πρότυπα των συνθέσεων του στη λαϊκή και θρησκευτική εικονογραφία, σε παλιά χαρακτικά και λιθογραφίες, σε φωτογραφίες και ταχυδρομικά δελτάρια. Βασικό στοιχείο των έργων του αποτελεί το χρώματα, το οποίο είναι ζωντανό και έντονο. Αποτυπώνει κάθε λεπτομέρεια του θέματος που θεωρεί ο ίδιο χαρακτηριστική, χωρίς να ενδιαφέρεται για την απόδοση προοπτικής και τις παραδοσιακές αξίες της ακαδημαϊκής ζωγραφικής."
