Η Ζωφόρος του Παρθενώνα. Λίθος Δ XVI (EL)

Ένας γυμνός νέος (30) εικονίζεται κατενώπιον σε μια άνετη, λικνιστική στάση. Στηρίζεται στο αριστερό πόδι έχοντας το δεξί στα πλάγια άνετο. Φαίνεται να προσπαθεί με το δεξί του χέρι να βάλει τη χλαμύδα του, που είναι ριγμένη στην αριστερή ωμοπλάτη και στον τεντωμένο στα πλάγια αντίστοιχο βραχίονα, σχηματίζοντας πλούσιες κατακόρυφες πτυχές και κυματιστή παρυφή. Η στάση της μορφής θυμίζει τις γωνιαίες μορφές άλλων πλευρών της ζωφόρου, τη μορφή (<a href='event:bLs1|46'>149</a>) του λίθου <a href='event:bLs1|46'>Ν XLVII</a>, την (<a href='event:bLs2|0'>1</a>) του λίθου <a href='event:bLs2|0'>Α I</a>, την (<a href='event:bLs3|0'>1</a>) του λίθου <a href='event:bLs3|0'>Β I</a> και την (1) του λίθου Δ I. Εν αντιθέσει προς τη μορφή (1) στο αριστερό άκρο της δυτικής ζωφόρου, η ποιότητα τέχνης της μορφής (30) μαρτυρεί έναν διακεκριμένο γλύπτη της ομάδας γλυπτών που φιλοτέχνησαν τη δυτική ζωφόρο. (EL)
A nude youth (30) is shown standing frontally, in a relaxed pose, slightly turning. His weight is on his left leg, his right free and to the side. He appears to be using his right hand to throw on his chlamys, which hangs over his left shoulder and outstretched arm in rich vertical folds falling to a wavy border. The pose of the figure resembles that of the corner figures on other sides of the frieze, figure(<a href='event:bLs1|46'>149</a>) on block <a href='event:bLs1|46'>S XLVII</a>, figure (<a href='event:bLs2|0'>1</a>) on block <a href='event:bLs2|0'>E I</a>, (<a href='event:bLs3|0'>1</a>) on block <a href='event:bLs3|0'>N I</a>and (1) on block W 1. In antithesis to figure (1) at the left end of the west frieze, the quality of workmanship and the artistry of figure (30) bear witness to a sculptor of outstanding talent among the creators of the west frieze.
