The Digital Collection of the Plomari Club “Veniamin Lesvios,” a historic cultural and educational association in the island of Lesvos, with a presence spanning over 130 years, comprises 1,738 items and chronologically covers the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. The collection documents the intellectual, social, and cultural activity of the Club, while also reflecting broader aspects of local and transregional history.
The corpus is strongly dominated by textual materials (1,728 items), primarily consisting of documents and correspondence, which form a dense network of administrative, social, and private communication. A substantial number of books is also included, alongside literary works such as poems, short stories, and novels, as well as manuscripts, newspaper clippings, diaries, and periodicals. Together, these materials illuminate patterns of intellectual production and reading practices across time.
Complementing the textual body, a smaller yet representative group of two-dimensional graphic materials includes prints, posters, and cards, while individual items of cartographic and religious nature further enrich the thematic diversity of the collection.
Of particular interest is the multilingual character of the archive. While the majority of items are in Greek, there is a notable presence of materials in Turkish, French, and German, as well as smaller numbers in English, Arabic, and Italian. This linguistic diversity reflects the historical and cultural interconnections of Plomari and the wider Aegean region.
