The Digital Collection of the Faltaits Museum—one of the earliest local historical and folklife museums in Greece (est. 1964)—documents the material culture and intellectual life of the northern island of Skyros, highlighting tradition as a foundation of collective identity. The digital collection comprises 4,153 items, primarily dating to the 19th and 20th centuries, forming a coherent body of folklife and historical documentation.
The collection is characterized by the predominance of three-dimensional objects and works of art, with emphasis on tools and equipment, household utensils, furniture, ceramics, textiles, and costumes, reflecting the productive activities and everyday life of the local community. At the same time, textual materials—including books, documents, correspondence, and typographic items—provide insight into the intellectual and social life of the island.
Two-dimensional materials—such as drawings, paintings, religious images, and photographs—complement the collection, offering visual and iconographic evidence. Thematic sub-collections, including ceramics, occupational tools, weaving implements, agricultural equipment, and traditional dress, highlight both the functional and symbolic dimensions of the objects, making the collection a valuable resource for the study of local cultural heritage within the broader Greek context.
