Institution : “V. Papantoniou” Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation
The Foundation's collections were established in 1974 with an initial donation of 6,000 items by Ioanna Papantoniou and today number 45,000 objects directly linked to folk and modern Greek culture.
Most items date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, though there are also several older pieces, such as the 'Coptic' textiles, featuring semeia and clavi (technical terms for decorative elements found on late antique and Coptic garments) from Egyptian tunics of the 6th century AD.
The costume collection, the collection of toys from around the world, jewelry, paintings, drawings, and engravings stand out, while the collection of fashion garments and their accessories is also becoming increasingly significant.
