The digital collection of the Museum of the City of Athens comprises approximately 2,400 items dating from the 17th century to the present, documenting the historical, social, and cultural development of the city. The corpus is predominantly composed of two-dimensional graphic materials (approximately 1,879 items), with photographs (1,634 items) forming the largest category, alongside prints, paintings, engravings, lithographs, and drawings that capture aspects of urban life, landscape, and collective memory.
A significant component of the collection consists of three-dimensional objects and works of art (511 items), including tools and equipment, domestic artifacts, furniture, textiles, and vessels, as well as personal items, sculptures, and coins, offering insight into everyday life and material culture. A smaller but important group of textual materials—such as manuscripts and printed items—along with cartographic material (maps), contributes to the historical documentation of the urban environment.
The collection also includes contemporary digital representations, such as three-dimensional reconstructions and models derived from 3D scanning, enhancing access to and study of the objects.
