Όπως αναφέραμε στα σχετικά κεφάλαια (Κηδείες σελ. 223 και Νηστείες σελ. 250), τις ψυχές τις έπαιρνε ο Αρχάγγελος Μιχαήλ και βοηθούσε κάποτε κι ο Άη Λευτέρης. Αυτή είναι η παράδοση, από τη Χριστιανική πλευρά, για την τελευταία πράξη του δράματος της ζωής, την ώρα που πρόκειται να πέσει η αυλαία. Φαίνεται όμως ολοκάθαρα ότι έμειναν και λείψανα της παλιάς ελληνικής θρησκείας κι δοξασίας για τον σπουδαίο αυτό σταθμό της ζωής. Διότι δε λείπει κι ο χάρος από τη μέση –ο χάρος-ατ’άγρος έτον ή ήμερος έτον ο χάρος-άτ’ (βλ. σελ. 223 στιχ. 7 και 8)Κοντά σ’αυτά ήτανε σε χρήση και μερικοί στίχοι αφιερωμένοι στο χάρο, που τους είχαν και για μοιρολόγια : Ο Χάρον κρυφά έρχεται και φανερά κουρσεύει. Χάρε μου, να μη χαίρεσαι καλόν να μην ελέπεις, που ξεχωρίεις αντρόγυνα και τέκν’ αιγαπημένα. Χάρε μου, να μη χαίρεσαι καλόν να μη ελέπεις, Να ελέψ’ τον ουρανόν θολόν την γήν σκοτεινασέαν Χάρε μου, να μη χαίρεσαι καλόν να μην ελέπεις, Να τρώς και τα παιδία σου χωρίς παιδίν να μείνεις. Έτσι χρησιμοποιόντανε και αυτοσχέδια δίστιχα με τον παραπάνω πρώτο στίχο σαν αρχικό και για το δεύτερο στίχο ένα ανάλογο σε κάθε περίσταση, όπως : Χάρε μου, να μη χαίρεσαι καλόν να μη ελέπεις, Έρθες εσύ κ’εχώρισες παιδίν ας’σήν μητέραν… κ.τ.τ Ωστόσο ήταν απαλλαγμένος από τα παραπέρα καθήκοντα που είχε πρώτα, για τη συνοδεία των νεκρών ως τον Άδη με τη γραφική του βάρκα. Σύμφωνα με τη λαική δοξασία, επηρεασμένη από τη χριστιανική θρησκεία, ο άγγελος, ο σταλμένος από τον Θεό έπαιρνε την ψυχή και την οδηγούσε σον άλλον κόσμον ή στον παράδεισο ή στην κόλαση. Ο Ακριτικός θρύλος για το χάρο δεν περιεσώθηκε στα Κοτύωρα.
