The Municipality of Prosotsani, centred on the historic town of the same name and comprising a further twenty-one villages and settlements, boasts a rich historical and cultural heritage. The area is situated in the west of the Drama valley, through which flows the health-giving waters of the Aggitis river which sprins from the cave of the same name and literally nestles between mounts Falakron and Menoikion, two habitats crucial to the Hellenic and wider Balkan area,. The Municipality comprises 480.77 square kilometers of land and takes up 13.87% of the total land of the Prefecture of Drama. The aim of the Municipality of Prosotsani is to become a dynamic local pole of sustainable development, ensuring high quality agricultural and livestock/stock breeding products, a high agro-food sector value, modern branches of craft and manufacturing products, promoting its tourist identity and protecting its eco-cultural reserves and quality of life under a modern local governance.
