      "@value" : "Το έργο πρέπει να έγινε κατά τη διάρκεια της μακράς παραμονής του καλλιτέχνη στη Βενετία, όπου συνέχισε τις σπουδές του μετά τη φοίτησή του στη σχολή ζωγραφικής, που είχε ιδρύσει ο πατέρας του, γλύπτης Παύλος Προσαλέντης στην γενέτειρά του Κέρκυρα. «Ο μικροπωλητής» είναι από τους λίγους πίνακές του με ηθογραφικό περιεχόμενο, αφού μετά την επιστροφή του, το 1865, και την οριστική εγκατάστασή του στην Αθήνα, το 1870, ασχολήθηκε σχεδόν αποκλειστικά με την προσωπογραφία."
