Vardianoi lighthouse

Beam 10 miles and focal height 28 meters. Tower 25 meters high, one of the highest in the lighthouse network. It was built by the British during the Ionian Ionian State period at the mouth of the Argostoli Gulf of Kefalonia on the islet of Vardiani (arch. Letoa <from an altar dedicated to the Goddess Leto, mother of Apollo). It joined the Greek Lighthouse Network in 1864 with the annexation of the Ionian Islands to Greece. The tower suffered major damage during the Occupation (1941-1944) and what was left fell in the earthquake of 1950. In its place, another tower 8.5 meters high was built, which has no relation from an architectural point of view to the original, and in which an automatic gas machine was placed a few meters from the base of the old tower.
Φωτοβολία 10 μίλια και εστιακό ύψος 28 μέτρα. Πύργος ύψους 25 μέτρων, ένας από τους υψηλότερους του φαρικού δικτύου. Κατασκευάστηκε από τους Άγγλους την περίοδο της Ιονίου Επτανησιακής Πολιτείας στο στόμιο του κόλπου Αργοστολίου της Κεφαλλονιάς επί της νησίδας Βαρδιάνοι (αρχ. Λητώα <από βωμό αφιερωμένο στη Θεά Λητώ μητέρα του Απόλλωνα). Στο Ελληνικό Φαρικό Δίκτυο εντάχθηκε το 1864 με την προσάρτηση των Ιονίων Νήσων στην Ελλάδα. Ο πύργος υπέστη μεγάλες ζημιές κατά τη διάρκεια της Κατοχής (1941 -1944) και ό,τι είχε απομείνει κατέπεσε στον σεισμό του 1950. Στη θέση του κατασκευάστηκε ένας άλλος πύργος ύψους 8,5 μέτρων, ο οποίος δεν έχει καμία σχέση από αρχιτεκτονικής απόψεως με τον αρχικό, και στον οποίο τοποθετήθηκε αυτόματο μηχάνημα αερίου λίγα μέτρα από τη βάση του παλιού πύργου.
