Didymi or Gaidouronisi lighthouse

Beam 20 miles and focal height 68 meters. Round stone tower, 29 meters high, in the middle of the lighthouse keeper's residence. It is located at the top of the homonymous islet Gaidaros or Grado (arch. Didymi) and approximately 1.5 miles from the port of Ermoupolis. It is the first lighthouse on the Greek coast that can be called a lighthouse and the first to be built with funds from the Greek state budget. It was built by the French Lighthouse Company to designs by the Bavarian architect Johann Erlacher and was founded on January 20, 1834. Its tower is the highest in the Greek Lighthouse Network. Today the lighthouse is unattended and has been abandoned, while its machine has been replaced with an automatic gas one.
Φωτοβολία 20 μίλια και εστιακό ύψος 68 μέτρα. Πύργος λιθόκτιστος στρογγυλός, ύψους 29 μέτρων, στη μέση της κατοικίας των φαροφυλάκων. Βρίσκεται στην κορυφή της ομώνυμης νησίδας Γάιδαρος ή Γράδο (αρχ. Διδύμη) και 1,5 μίλι περίπου από το λιμάνι της Ερμούπολης. Είναι ο πρώτος πυρσός των ελληνικών ακτών που μπορεί να ονομαστεί φάρος και ο πρώτος που χτίστηκε με πιστώσεις του ελληνικού κρατικού προϋπολογισμού. Κατασκευάστηκε από τη Γαλλική Εταιρεία Φάρων σε σχέδια του Βαυαρού αρχιτέκτονα Johann Erlacher και θεμελιώθηκε στις 20 Ιανουαρίου 1834. Ο πύργος του είναι ο υψηλότερος στο Ελληνικό Φαρικό Δίκτυο. Σήμερα ο φάρος είναι ανεπιτήρητος και έχει εγκαταλειφθεί, ενώ το μηχάνημά του έχει αντικατασταθεί με αυτόματο αερίου.
