Η φωτογραφία είναι ασπρόμαυρη ματ. Απεικονίζει αριστερά τον Παύλο Μελά, με στολή ανθυπολοχαγού, ασκεπή, να ακουμπά τον δεξιό αγκώνα του σε παρακείμενο σιδηροκρέβατο και τα μαζεμένα του δάχτυλα στο κεφάλι του, ενώ γέρνει ελαφρά στο μπράτσο της ψάθινης πολυθρόνας, όπου είναι καθισμένη η Ναταλία. Το βλέμμα του είναι ονειροπόλο και βυθίζεται στο άπειρο. Δεξιά του κάθεται αναπαυτικά η Ναταλία σε ψάθινη πολυθρόνα. Φορά λευκό μακρύ φόρεμα με μανίκια, με κλειστό σηκωτό γιακά και φαρδιά ζώνη. Ακουμπά τα χέρια στα πόδια της και έχει εστραμμένο το πρόσωπο προφίλ κοιτώντας τον Παύλο στα μάτια. Πίσω στον τοίχο και πάνω τους φωτογραφίζονται δύο ράβδοι χιαστί, ένας σταυρός στην ένωση τους κάτω και ένα μικρό ελάφι πάνω, ενώ στις απολήξεις των ράβδων υπάρχουν τέσσερις φωτογραφίες σε σχήμα πέταλου. Δεξιά στην φωτογραφία διακρίνεται ένα τραπέζι με γυριστά πόδια. Η φωτογραφία είναι επικολλημένη σε κιτρινωπή πινακίδα, χωρίς άλλες ενδείξεις. Η οπίσθια πλευρά φέρει ένα λευκό ετικετάκι με το νούμερο 22. Κατά προσωπική μαρτυρία της δωρήτριας, εγγονής του Παύλου Μελά από την κόρη του Ζωή, η φωτογραφία είναι της εποχής των αρραβώνων του Παύλου και της Ναταλίας.

She is resting her hands in her lap and her face is turned in profile, looking Pavlos in the eyes. Back on the wall and above them are photographed two crossed bars, a cross at their junction below and a small deer above, while at the ends of the bars there are four photographs in the shape of a petal. A table with turned legs can be seen on the right of the photograph. The photograph is pasted on a yellowish plate, with no other markings. The reverse has a white label with the number 22. According to the personal testimony of the donor, the granddaughter of Pavlos Melas by his daughter Zoe, the photograph is from the time of the engagement of Pavlos and Natalia.
