ΒΙΟΜΗΧΑΝΙΚΗ ΕΓΚΑΤΑΣΤΑΣΗ- Το 1879 άρχισε συστηματική εκμετάλλευση του ηφαιστειογενούς κοιτάσματος θείου από τον επιχειρηματία Α. Ράλλη, ο οποίος κατασκεύασε μια μονάδα εμπλουτισμού στον όρμο της Αγίας Ειρήνης. Εξήγαγε το θείο κυρίως σε χώρες της Μέσης Ανατολής. Μετά το 1885 η δραστηριότητα μειώνεται και αργότερα εγκαταλείπεται, με αποτέλεσμα να καταστραφούν και οι εγκαταστάσεις εμπλουτισμού. Τμήματα του σκελετού των κτιρίων της μονάδας αυτής σώζεται έως σήμερα στον όρμο της Αγίας Ειρήνης.

INDUSTRIAL FACILITY- In 1879 systematic exploitation of the volcanic sulfur deposit began by the businessman A. Rallis, who built an enrichment unit in the bay of Agia Irini. It exported sulfur mainly to Middle Eastern countries. After 1885 the activity decreased and was later abandoned, with the result that the beneficiation facilities were also destroyed. Parts of the skeleton of the buildings of this unit are preserved to this day in the bay of Agia Irini.
