Η κλασική πόλη της Πύλου αναπτύσσεται μετά την κατάληψη της Σφακτηρίας από τους Αθηναίους και κυρίως μετά τη μάχη των Λεύκτρων και την ανεξαρτητοποίηση της Μεσσηνίας. Στον θαλάσσιο χώρο του ακρωτηρίου Κορυφασίου σώζονται ίχνη από τις λιμενικές εγκαταστάσεις.

The classical city of Pylos was developed after the conquest of Sphakteria by the Athenians and particularly after the battle at Leuktra and the liberation of Messenia. On the sea-shore by the cape Koryphasion are still visible remains of the port infrastructure of the classical city.
