Το κάστρο της Κυπαρισσίας ή Κάστρο της Αρκαδιάς, όπως ήταν γνωστό παλιότερα, σε φωτογραφία του 1925. Οι οχυρώσεις χρονολογούνται από την κλασική-ελληνιστική περίοδο, με φάσεις βυζαντινές, φραγκικές και οθωμανικές. Το όνομα Αρκαδιά το πήρε ίσως από την εγκατάσταση εκεί Αρκάδων εποίκων κατά τον 7ο ή 8ο αιώνα. Πάντως το βέβαιο είναι ότι οι κάτοικοι της Αρκαδιάς υποβλήθηκαν σε αναγκαστική μετοικεσία το 1460 στα παράλια της Μικάς Ασίας, λόγω της αντίστασης που πρόβαλαν στους Οθωμανούς.

The name Arcadia was probably due to the settlement of immmigrants from Arcadia in Central Peloponnese, during the 7th and 8th centuries. However, one thing is for certain, that in 1460 large part of its inhabitants were submitted to forced emigration to the Asia Minor coast, because they had resisted the Ottoman invasion.
