Το κάστρο της Μεθώνης υπήρξε μια εξαιρετικά οχυρή θέση ήδη από την κλασική εποχή. Στη μορφή που το βλέπουμε σήμερα είναι δημιούργημα των Φράγκων και των Ενετών, ένα αριστούργημα οχυρωματικής αρχιτεκτονικής, πράγμα που αποδεικνύεται απο το γεγονός ότι οι Οθωμανοί διατήρησαν την κυριαρχία του σε όλη τη διάρκεια της ελληνικής επανάστασης.

The castle of Methoni was an extremely fortified site already in the classical period. It got its present-day shape by the Franks and the Venetians, and was a masterpiece of fortress architecture, as proved by the fact that the Ottomans maintained their control of it throughout the Greek War for Independence.
