Οι σταλακτίτες είναι λιθώδεις - ασβεστολιθικοί - σχηματισμοί, οι οποίοι δημιουργούνται κυρίως στις οροφές των σπηλαίων. Οι χρωματισμοί των σταλακτιτών προέρχονται από διάφορα οξείδια, που περιέχονται διαλυμένα μέσα στο νερό. Έτσι, για παράδειγμα, οξείδια του σιδήρου θα δώσουν κόκκινους χρωματισμούς, ενώ οξείδια το μαγγανίου καστανομέλανες. (EL)
The stalactites are aggregates - limestones - formations, set up mainly on the roofs of caves. The colors of stalactites come from various dissolved oxides contained in the water. So, for example, iron oxides will give red color, while the manganese oxides will give dark brown. (EN)
