A copy of the loom invented by Basile Bouchon is part of the permanent collection of Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers. Basile Bouchon began the automation of weaving during 1725 - 1728. In 1725, Basile Bouchon, the son of an organ maker, adapted the concept of musical automata controlled by pegged cylinders to the repetitive task of weaving. He invented a loom that was controlled by perforated paper tape. Bouchon's invention was the first industrial application of the semi-automated machine. The images show a copy of this loom as shown in the permanent collection of the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers.
