Το «Κόκκινο Πορτραίτο» του Κώστα Τσώλη, της συλλογής του Μουσείου Σύγχρονης Τέχνης, ανήκει στον κύκλο των πρώιμων έργων του καλλιτέχνη, ο οποίος αναπτύσσεται στο κλίμα του εξπρεσιονισμού. Θεματολογικά κυριαρχούν τα ανθρώπινα πορτραίτα, ανδρικά και γυναικεία. Το σκιώδες πορτραίτο, όπου φωτίζεται και ξεχωρίζεται μονάχα η περιοχή των ματιών, στο μονοχρωματικό κενό φόντο, σε συνδυασμό με τη χειρονομιακή τεχνική με τις πλούσιες πάστες που εφαρμόζει ο ζωγράφος επιτυγχάνουν ένα έντονο εκφραστικό αποτέλεσμα, που μαγνητίζει το βλέμμα του θεατή.

The shadowy portrait, where only the area around the eyes is illuminated and stands out against the monochromatic background, combined with the gestural technique and rich pastels applied by the painter, achieve a strong expressive result that captivates the viewer's gaze.
