Ο Mattiacci στο έργο του ενδιαφέρθηκε για την αντίσταση των υλικών, γι' αυτό μελέτησε τη συμπίεση της ύλης από το βάρος, τη διαφάνεια της, την κίνησή της και τη μεταβολή της από τις φυσικές συνθήκες, τον ήλιο και τη βροχή. Τα έργα του αποτελούν εργασίες που εντάσσονται στο πνεύμα της ιταλικής σχολής της δεκαετίας του 1970 και συνιστάται στην αποδοχή της απόλυτης ατομικότητας των επεμβάσεων , της κάθε μιας ως προς την προηγούμενη και την επόμενη, και όπου πρόκειται, κυρίως για έρευνες, χωρίς συνέπεια ή συνέχεια μεταξύ τους, αλλά για διαπιστώσεις ad hoc, ως προς έναν σύγχρονο κόσμο τον οποίο χαρακτηρίζει η ασυνέχεια και η διακοπή.
