Ο Μιχάλης Λεκάκης παράλληλα με τη γλυπτική ασχολήθηκε και με τη ζωγραφική. Οι ζωγραφικές του συνθέσεις αρχικά είναι πιο παραστατικές, το θέμα είναι ευδιάκριτο, συχνά ρεαλιστικά αποδοσμένο, ενώ κινούνται σε μια χαμηλόφωνη χρωματική κλίμακα, κυρίως σε γήινους τόνους. Σταδιακά, όμως, τα έργα γίνονται πιο αφαιρετικά, χρωματικά κυριαρχούν το λευκό και το μαύρο και προχωρά εν τέλει σε μια μεγάλη σειρά έργων που κινείται στο χώρο της γεωμετρικής αφαίρεσης, όπως τα δύο έργα «Χωρίς τίτλο» που ανήκουν στις συλλογές του Μουσείου Σύγχρονης Τέχνης.

Michalis Lekakis, along with sculpture, was also involved in painting. His painting compositions are initially more figurative, the subject matter is distinct, often realistically rendered, while they move in a low tonal colour scale, mainly in earthy tones. Gradually, however, the works become more abstract, with white and black dominating the colours, and he eventually moves on to a large series of works that move in the realm of geometric abstraction, such as the two paintings "Untitled" that belong to the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art.
