Τσαρούχης, Γιάννης (1910-1989)Tsarouchis, Yannis (1910-1989)Ο Τσαρούχης, παράλληλα με το καλλιτεχνικό του έργο, εικονογράφησε αρκετές εκδόσεις. Ανάμεσα σε αυτές ήταν και ορισμένες από τις ποιητικές συλλογές του Σεφέρη και του Ελύτη. Φιλοτεχνεί την «Προμετωπίδα για το “Άξιον Εστί”» του Οδυσσέα Ελύτη, λιθογραφία της οποίας ανήκει στη συλλογή του MOMus-Μουσείου Σύγχρονης Τέχνης.The influences of different movements and artists are evident in the works created by Tsarouchis in the 1940s and early 1950s. He experiments with technique and colour, moving dialectically between past and present, myth, tradition and the contemporary world. In the portraits he creates he seeks to depict faces vividly and to convey their mystery to the viewer, as in the case of the portrait of Alexander Xydis or the portrait of the peasant woman. He illustrates the letters he sends to Xydis by creating small drawings/ watercolours: peasant women, men in uniform and sailors are some of his favourite subjects of the period, which accompany his letters to the famous art critic.
