Η Ζωφόρος του Παρθενώνα. Λίθος Δ I (EL)

Ο λίθος αυτός βρίσκεται στο Βρετανικό Μουσείο. Στην πραγματικότητα πρόκειται για τη στενή πλευρά του λίθου <a href='event:bLs3|46'>ΧLVII</a> της βόρειας πλευράς. Ένας επόπτης (<a href='event:bLs3|46'>1</a>) εικονίζεται κατενώπιον με το κεφάλι στραμμένο προς τα δεξιά. Στηρίζεται στο δεξί του πόδι έχοντας άνετο το αριστερό. Το σώμα του καλύπτεται από το ιμάτιο πλην του άνω δεξιού μέρους. Το αριστερό του χέρι λυγισμένο ακουμπάει στο αντίστοιχο ισχίο, ενώ στο ανυψωμένο δεξί του χέρι κρατούσε ράβδο, άλλοτε ζωγραφισμένη. Ο γλύπτης αυτής της σκηνής δεν φαίνεται να ανήκει στους γλύπτες που λάξευσαν τις άλλες γλυπτές επιφάνειες της δυτικής ζωφόρου που διακρίνονται για τη δεξιοτεχνία τους. Θα πρέπει να έγινε με βιασύνη πολύ αργότερα, όταν ετοιμάστηκαν οι λίθοι της βόρειας ζωφόρου. (EL)
The block is in the British Museum. It is, in fact, the end or narrow side of block <a href='event:bLs3|46'>XLVII</a> of the north side. A marshal (<a href='event:bLs3|46'>1</a>) is depicted standing frontally, his head turned toward the right (proper left). His weight is on his right leg, his left is free. Except for the upper right side, his body is concealed in his himation. His left arm is bent, his hand resting on his hip, and in his raised right hand he held a staff, once shown in paint. The sculptor of this block appears not to be one of those who carved the other sculptured surfaces of the west frieze, so notable for their skillful workmanship. It must have been hastily carved some time later, when they were preparing the blocks of the north frieze. (EN)
