The Digital Archive of the National Theatre of Greece, preserves and provides access to an extensive corpus of approximately 30,900 items, including performance programs, press clippings, photographs, audio recordings (from 1955 onward), video recordings (from 1994 onward), musical scores, costumes, and posters.
The composition of the digital collection is characterized by the predominance of two-dimensional graphic materials (approximately 17,800 items), primarily photographs, alongside printed materials such as programs and posters. Textual materials (approximately 10,000 items), mainly press articles and clippings, document the reception and critical discourse surrounding performances.
In addition, the archive includes a substantial body of performance-related material, such as audio recordings (over 1,100 items) and video recordings (nearly 300 items), capturing the performative dimension of theatrical practice. Three-dimensional objects (426 items), consisting of theatrical costumes, further highlight the material culture of performance, while a small number of 3D digital representations expand the modes of access and interpretation.
The digital holdings are organized into distinct sub-collections, including photographs of performances, programs, documented productions, historical photographs, audio excerpts, full audio recordings, costumes, posters, and video excerpts and recordings.
Τhe archive constitutes a rich and coherent documentation resource, illuminating the artistic, historical, and institutional trajectory of the National Theatre of Greece.
