The Travelogues digital collection presents a richly documented panorama of travel literature and graphic material spanning the 15th to the early 20th century, centred on the Mediterranean, Southeastern Europe, Greece, Asia Minor, and Southern Italy.
Developed by the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, the collection brings together texts and illustrations from historical travel accounts—written and visual—by travellers, scholars, artists, and observers whose journeys reflect the cultural, social, and spatial encounters of their time.
Τhese materials encompass engravings, drawings, and early photographs that reveal how different eras and intellectual currents shaped perceptions of places, monuments, and peoples across centuries. Of particular interest is the Ottoman heritage and its various aspects as illustrated in the collection, as well as Asia Minor ancient architecture as illustrated by travellers doing the Grand Tour.
Travelogues not only serves as a resource for academic research and international scholarship but also makes this invaluable heritage accessible toall as a means to explore cultural landscapes and intercultural exchange through primary sources.
