The Museum of the History of Medicine of the University of Ioannina serves as a center for the preservation, research, and promotion of the History of Medicine, from antiquity to the present day. The Museum of the History of Medicine of the University of Ioannina was founded in 1995 and inaugurated on May 31, 2018. It houses objects that reflect the evolution of Greek medicine through the centuries. More than 20,000 objects are exhibited in its 14 halls, covering 750 sq. m., located in the naturally lit basement of the Medical School building, beneath the atrium. Objects relating to Medicine in antiquity, Dioscoridean depictions of plants with medicinal herbs and modern-day remedies, a small chapel with icons of 65 physicians and 12 female healers who were canonized, coins, banknotes, medical caricatures, as well as a complete collection of 450 Greek stamps on medical themes, are among the exhibits that make up the collection of the Museum of the History of Medicine of the University of Ioannina.
