The Benaki Museum is an innovative and vibrant cultural heritage organisation whereby the civilisations that have been present in the broader Helladic territory throughout history converse with the civilisations of the rest of Europe, the Islamic world, China, Africa and South America, as well as, with modern and contemporary movements. The Benaki is arranged across a network of open-to-the-public buildings comprising seven museums, four archival departments, an extensive library and the Patrick and Joan Leigh Fermor house in Kardamili- Peloponnese. The Museum’s goals are to protect and make widely accessible its varied collections via multiple channels, to encourage scientific research, to educate its audiences through its permanent, temporary and traveling exhibitions, courses, events, publications and open access media, as well as to nurture a dynamic relationship with the contemporary cultural processes in Greece and abroad. Benaki has been among the pioneers in Greece to adopt new technologies as a means to provide wide access to its collections, and maintains a particularly dynamic web presence via its website that features more than 20.000 objects from its collections.
