Το μετάλλιο αποτελείται από ισοσκελή ανοικτό σταυρό, με στηθαίο στο κέντρο και δύο διασταυρούμενα ξίφη μεταξύ των κεραιών του. Στην πρόσθια όψη φέρει έκτυπη εστεφανωμένη γυναικεία κεφαλή και κυκλικά την επιγραφή ''REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE", ενώ στην οπίσθια τις χρονολογίες 1914-1916.Στην επάνω κεραία του σταυρού προσάπτεται σφαιρίδιο από όπου διέρχεται ο κρίκος, ο οποίος ενώνει τον σταυρό με την ταινία. Η ταινία φέρει εναλλάξ πράσινες και κόκκινες γραμμές και επ’αυτής υπάρχει ορειχάλκινος κλάδος δάφνης. Υπάρχει επίσης η μεγάλη περόνη προσαρτήσεως.

The medal consists of a square open cross, with a plate in the middle and two crossed swords between its arms. On the obverse it bears a crowned female head and the circular inscription “REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE”, while on the reverse the dates 1914-1916. A ball is attached to the upper arm of the cross through which the ring passes, which joins the cross to the ribbon. The ribbon has alternating green and red lines and a brass laurel branch on the ribbon. There is also a large attachment pin.
