Το Διδασκαλείο Κρήτης στο Ηράκλειο είχε στην κατοχή του πλήθος εποπτικών διδακτικών μέσων (εποπτικό υλικό και σχολικός εξοπλισμός) που χρησιμοποιούνταν κατά την εκπαιδευτική λειτουργία του. Τα μέσα αυτά αποτελούσαν ένα σημαντικό μέρος της κινητής περιουσίας του ιδρύματος, όπως προκύπτει και από την υπηρεσιακή αλληλογραφία του Διδασκαλείου. Το υλικό και ο εξοπλισμός αυτός διακρίνονται στις ακόλουθες κατηγορίες: α. Σχολικές Εικόνες. β. Σχολικοί Χάρτες. γ. Κεντήματα Διδασκαλείου. δ. Σχολικά έπιπλα. ε. Ποικίλα Αντικείμενα συλλογών και σχολικού εξοπλισμού. στ. Φωτογραφίες μαθητών/ τριών και διδακτικού προσωπικού. στ. Εποπτικό υλικό μαθημάτων φυσικών επιστημών. ζ. Γραφική ύλη.
Στην αρχειακή συλλογή του Διδασκαλείου εντοπίστηκε πλήθος τεκμηριωτικού υλικού, το οποίο συμβάλλει περαιτέρω στη μελέτη του συνολικού αρχειακού υλικού, φανερώνοντας συναισθηματικές πτυχές των μαθητών/ τριών και του διδακτικού προσωπικού του Ιδρύματος. Οι εν λόγω φωτογραφίες διακρίνονται στις εξής κατηγορίες: α. Φωτογραφίες μαθητών/ τριών που επισυνάπτονται στα απολυτήριά τους. β. Αναμνηστικές φωτογραφίες μαθητών/ τριών και διδακτικού προσωπικού από επισκέψεις και εκδηλώσεις. γ. Φωτογραφίες διευθυντών του Διδασκαλείου. δ. Φωτογραφία διδακτηρίου του Διδασκαλείου.
Η συγκεκριμένη φωτογραφία ανήκε στην κατηγορία «Φωτογραφία διδακτηρίου του Διδασκαλείου». Σε αυτήν εικονίζεται το πρώτο κτήριο, στο οποίο στεγάστηκε το Διδασκαλείο Κρήτης στο Ηράκλειο. Πρόκειται για το τωρινό κτήριο της Περιφέρειας Κρήτης στην πλατεία Ελευθερίας. Το εν λόγω κτήριο λειτουργούσε από το 1585 ως στρατώνας για τους Ενετούς. Την ίδια χρήση είχε αργότερα και για τους Οθωμανούς. Καταστράφηκε το 1856 από μεγάλο σεισμό και ανοικοδομήθηκε εκ νέου. Το 1901 στέγασε το νεοσύστατο τότε Διδασκαλείο Κρήτης.

The Didaskaleion of Crete in Heraklion had in its possession a number of visual aiding teaching materials (visual material and school equipment) that were used during its educational function. These materials constituted an important part of the movable property of the institution, as it can be seen from the official correspondence of the Didaskaleion. This material and equipment are divided into the following categories: a. School pictures. b. School maps. c. Embroidery of the Didaskaleion. d. School furniture. e. Various items of collections and school equipment. f. Photographs of students and teaching staff. f. Aiding material for natural science courses. g. Stationery.
A large amount of documentary material was found in the archival collection of the Didaskaleion, which further contributes to the study of the overall archival material, revealing emotional aspects of the students and teaching staff of the Institution. The photographs are divided into the following categories: a. Photographs of students attached to their diplomas. b. Souvenir photograph of students and teaching staff from visits and events. c. Photograph of the principals of the Didaskaleion. d. Photograph of the Didaskelion building.
This particular photograph belonged to the category "Teaching Building Photograph". It depicts the first building in which the Didaskaleion of Crete was housed in Heraklion. It is the current building of the Region of Crete in Eleftheria Square. That same property functioned as a barracks for the Venetians since 1585 and later it was used by the Ottomans for the same reason. In 1856 a major earthquake destroyed the building which was later reconstructed. In 1901 it housed the newly established Didaskaleion of Crete.

Dans les archives de Didaskalio (École pour la formation des enseignants), on a retrouvé un grand nombre de documents qui révèlent des aspects émotionnels des étudiant(e)s et du personnel enseignant de Didaskalio. Les photos retrouvées sont classées aux catégories suivantes : a. Photos des étudiant(e)s jointes auxdiplômes de fin d’études. b. Photos souvenirs des étudiant(e)s et du personnel enseignant des visites pédagogiques et des différents événements. c. Photos des directeurs de Didaskalio. c. Photo des locaux de Didaskalio.
La photo présentée ici appartenait à la catégorie «Photo des locaux de Didaskalio». Sur cette photo on voit le premier bâtiment dans lequel se trouvait le Didaskalio (École pour la formation des enseignants) de Crète à Héraklion. Il s’agit du bâtiment où se trouve aujourd’hui le Conseil Régional de Crète, à la place Eléfthéria (place de la liberté). Le bâtiment en question dès 1585 fonctionnait comme caserne militaire pour les Vénitiens. Et plus tard il avait la même fonction pour les Ottomans. Il a été détruit en 1856 lors d’un grand tremblement de terre et ensuite il a été reconstruit. En 1901 il a abrité le Didaskalio de Crète, qui venait d’être créé.
