Η Αγία Βάτος. Ξυλογραφία. Τέλη 17ου - αρχές 18ου αιώνα (εκτύπωση του 1977 σε χαρτί). Χαράκτης άγνωστος. Πάνω από την απόκρημνη, σχηματική κορυφή του όρους Σινά, εικονίζεται, σε στρογγυλή φυλλωσιά, η Παναγία στηθαία με τον Χριστό μπροστά της. Από δεξιά προβάλλει ο Άγγελος Κυρίου. Επάνω ημικυκλική δόξα και τα χέρια του Θεού, που το ένα ευλογεί και με το άλλο κρατά τις πλάκες του Νόμου. Στην άκρη δεξιά ο βράχος που προεξέχει με μια εκκλησία παριστάνει την Αγία Κορυφή. Αριστερά από την Παναγία, η Αγία Αικατερίνη, ολόσωμη, κρατά κλαδί από φοίνικα και σταυρό και ακουμπάει σε τροχό. Δίπλα της δεξιά αναλόγιο, βιβλία και αστρονομικά όργανα. Στην αντίστοιχη θέση δεξιά, ο προφήτης Μωυσής ολόσωμος, με το ραβδί στο χέρι, ατενίζει την Παναγία σε στάση δέησης. Μπροστά του πρόβατα και πιο κάτω πάλι ο Μωυσής, γονατιστός, που βγάζει τα σάνδαλά του. Κάτω, στο κέντρο το μοναστήρι του Σινά και στις γωνίες καθιστοί ο άγιος Ιωάννης της Κλίμακος και ο Προφήτης Ηλίας.
Η ξυλογραφία είναι αχρονολόγητη και χωρίς υπογραφή. Ακολουθεί το εικονογραφικό πρότυπο της ξυλογραφίας του 1665 από τον χαράκτη Κορνήλιο, έχει χαραχτεί όμως από άπειρο και αδέξιο τεχνίτη. [Πηγή: Ντ. Virgin of the Burning Bush. Woodcut, Late 17th – early 18th c. (a recent, 1977, print on paper). Woodcutter: unknown.
A bust of the Virgin, holding Christ in front of her, is portrayed within a foliate roundel above the sheer schematic peak of Mount Sinai; the angel of the Lord leans out, top right, from the circumference of the Bush. The Hands of God protrude from the semi-circular glory at the top, the one giving a blessing, the other holding the tables of the Law. In the top right-hand corner, the projecting rock surmounted by a church represents the Sacred Peak. To the left of the Virgin is the full-length figure of Saint Catherine holding a palm branch and a cross, her right hand resting on a wheel; to her right is a lectern, books, and astronomical instruments. In the corresponding position to the right of Mount Sinai is the full-length figure of Moses; staff in hand, he looks upon the Virgin in an attitude of supplication. Close by him are sheep, and below them another figure of Moses, crounching down and loosing his sandals. In the centre foreground is the Monastery of Sinai, flanked by the seated figures of Saint John Klimakos and Prophet Elijah.
The woodcut is undated and unsigned. It is based on the iconographic prototype of a woodcut made by Kornilios in 1665, but it is the work of an unskilled and less experienced craftsman. [Source: D.
