Στο κέντρο της παράστασης δεσπόζει η ολόσωμη μετωπική μορφή του Προδρόμου με τα μεγάλα φτερά, που φορεί μηλωτή και μανδύα, ευλογεί με το δεξί και κρατεί με το αριστερό ειλητάριο. Στα πόδια του βαθύ πιάτο με το κομμένο του κεφάλι. Στο τοπίο αραιή βλάστηση και μικροσκοπικά κυπαρίσσια. Δεξιά δύο μεγαλύτερα δέντρα, το ένα με την αξίνα περασμένη στον κορμό και επάνω από το δεύτερο σμήνος πουλιών. Αριστερά η κορυφή του Άθω και ο ήλιος που ανατέλλει, πιο χαμηλά η μονή Διονυσίου που υψώνεται κοντά στη θάλασσα, όπου αρμενίζουν δύο βάρκες. [Πηγή: Ντ. Παπαστράτου, Χάρτινες Εικόνες. The full-length frontal figure of the Forerunner with large wings and wearing a sheepskin and cloak occupies the centre of the picture; he blesses with his right hand and in his left caries a cross and an opened scroll. His severed head lies at his feet on a stemmed dish. The landscape is sparsely covered with vegetation and minute cypress trees. On the right are two much larger trees; an axe is resting in the trunk of one of them and a flock of birds overflies the other. On the left is the peak of Athos, the sun rising over its upper slopes; lower down is the Dionysiou Monastery towering over the sea where a couple of boats ply the waters. [Source: D.
