Ιστορικό Σημείωμα: Κρητική αρχοντική οικογένεια, μια των 12 οικογενειών των αναφερομένων ως "Αρχοντόπουλων", ενδεχομένως βυζαντινής προέλευσης. Μέλη της πρωτοστάτησαν σε εξεγέρσεις κατά των Βενετών στην Κρήτη (13ος-14ος αι.), αργότερα όμως εντάχθηκαν στο σύστημα της βενετικής κυριαρχίας και τους αναγνωρίστηκε τίτλος Κρητικής ευγενείας ("Nobili Cretensi"). Αυτό το έγχρωμο οικόσημο (εύρημα σπάνιο στον ελλαδικό χώρο) ανήκει στον αφιερωτή της εικόνας της Σταυρώσεως του γνωστού ζωγράφου Κωνσταντίνου Παλαιόκαπα (17ος αι.), στη Μονή Οδηγήτριας Κυράς Γωνιάς (Κολυμπάρι). Historical Notice: Cretan noble family of alleged Byzantine origins (one of the 12 so-called "Archontopoula"). Its members played a leading role in revolts against the Venetians in Crete (13th-14th c.), but were later incorporated into the Venetian dominion system and received a title of Cretan nobility ("Nobili Cretensi"). This colored coat-of-arms (quite rare in the Greek areas) is to be found on an icon depicting the Crucifiction, by the well known painter Konstantinos Paliokapas (17th c.), in the Odigitria Kyra Monastery of Gonia (Kolympari).
