Ο εικονιζόμενος θυρεός ανήκει στον Μεγάλο Μάγιστρο του Τάγματος του Οσπιταλίου του Αγίου Ιωάννου της Ιερουσαλήμ, Pierre d' Aubusson. Υπενθυμίζεται ότι η Κως παρέμεινε υπό την κυριαρχία των Ιωαννιτών από τις αρχές του 14ου αιώνα μέχρι το 1522.
