Ιστορικό Σημείωμα: Οίκος Βενετών πατρικίων με αξιοσημείωτη παρουσία στις ελληνικές θάλασσες, ο οποίος έδωσε μεταξύ των άλλων τρεις δούκες της Κρήτης (13ος και 14ος αι.) και έναν ρέκτορα Τήνου και Μυκόνου (15ος αι.), ενώ ένας κλάδος της οικογένειας ηγεμόνευσε στη νησιώτικη κομητεία της Αστυπάλαιας (1413-1537) και της Αμοργού (1446-1537). Το εικονιζόμενο οικόσημο ανήκει σε μέλος της οικογένειας που διετέλεσε Βενετός αξιωματούχος στην Κρήτη, την περίοδο που πραγματοποιήθηκαν οχυρωματικές εργασίες στο Φραγκοκάστελο (μεταξύ των ετών 1593-1597). Υπενθυμίζεται ότι η Κρήτη διετέλεσε υπό βενετική κυριαρχία από τις αρχές του 13ου αιώνα έως το 1645 (1669 σε ό,τι αφορά το φρούριο του Χάνδακα). (EL)
Historical Notice: Venetian patrician house with a notable presence in the Greek seas, including three dukes of Crete (13th and 14th c.) and a rector of the islands Tinos and Mykonos (15th c.). A branch of the same family ruled for more than a century the insular county of Astypalaia (1413-1537), including also the island of Amorgos (1446-1537). This particular coat-of-arms belongs to a member of the family who assumed official duties in Crete, during the works of fortification carried out in Frangokastello (Castelfranco), in the end of the 16th century. The island of Crete was under Venetian rule from the early 13th century to 1645 (1669 in the case of the castle of Candia). (EN)
