Ταύτιση φορέα του οικόσημου Silvestro Valier, δόγης Βενετίας (1694-1700)

Ιστορικό Σημείωμα: Οίκος Βενετών πατρικίων, που έδωσε, μεταξύ των άλλων, δύο δόγηδες της Βενετίας τον 17ο αιώνα. Εδώ απεικονίζεται ο πτερωτός λέων του Αγίου Μάρκου, έμβλημα της Βενετίας, ο οποίος κρατά το οικόσημο του δόγη Silvestro Valier, αντί του συνήθους Ευαγγελίου. Η παράσταση, συνοδευόμενη από τη χρονολογία 1696, διακοσμεί ένα πυροβόλο που βρίσκεται στο κανονοστάσιο της πόλης του Ναυπλίου. Υπενθυμίζεται ότι το Ναύπλιο διετέλεσε υπό βενετική κυριαρχία για δύο περιόδους, από το 1388 έως το 1540 και από το 1686 έως το 1715.

Identification of the Coat-of-Arms: Valier

Historical Notice: Venetian patrician house, including two doges of Venice in the 17th century. Depicted here is the winged lion, symbol of Saint Mark and emblem of Venice, holding the coat-of-arms of Valier, instead of the usual Bible. The composition, dated 1696, decorates the barrel of a cannon, part of a battery positioned over the sea, at the city of Nafplio. It was probably used during the Turkish�Venetian War of 1684�1699. Nafplio was under Venetian rule during two periods, from 1388 to 1540 and from 1686 to 1715.
