The Digital Archive of the Corinth Canal and the Industrial Museum of the Corinth Canal Company (AEDIK S.A.) brings together and showcases a corpus of approximately 585 items documenting the history, technology, and operation of one of the most significant engineering works of modern Greece. The material is organized into distinct sub-collections, including plans and maps, objects, printed and archival material, works of art, as well as selected holdings from the Historical Archive of the National Bank of Greece and photographic material.
The composition of the repository is marked by the strong presence of two-dimensional graphic materials (approximately 370 items), with technical drawings (over 320) forming the dominant category. These documents precisely record the design and construction phases of the Canal. Complementing this material are paintings, prints, lithographs, and a limited number of photographs, which provide visual representations of the project and its historical reception.
Textual materials (approximately 120 items), primarily books, along with documents, correspondence, and publication excerpts, offer valuable insight into the administrative, financial, and technical context of the Canal’s development and operation. Three-dimensional objects (99 items), mainly tools and equipment, as well as models and maquettes, reflect the material and technological dimensions of the project. The presence of specialized equipment, including telecommunications devices, further points to the operational requirements of managing the Canal.
Overall, the digital collection constitutes a coherent and multi-layered body of documentation, highlighting the Corinth Canal not only as an engineering achievement but also as a historical, economic, and cultural landmark.
