The Gennadius Library of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens houses the archive of Ioannis Gennadios, Greece's ambassador to London. With a mission dedicated to the study of Hellenic history, the Gennadius Library is one of the most important libraries of its kind in the world. It serves as an 'ark' of books, manuscripts, rare bindings, research material, archives, and works of art. In addition to books, Ioannis Gennadios collected photographs and other ephemera (newspaper and book clippings, copper engravings, printed material, proclamations, invitations, and much more), which he arranged in large-scale scrapbooks. These 116 scrapbooks cover various subjects: history, topography, archaeology, ethnology (costumes), architecture, art history, the history of the book, and journalism, as well as the history of the Gennadios family.
