The digital collection “Democracy and Freedom: A Digital Museum of European Solidarity in Greece (1967–1974)” constitutes an extensive and multifaceted body of documentation that highlights the European solidarity movement in support of the anti-dictatorship struggle in Greece during the military junta period. The material is drawn from the collections and library of the Archives of Contemporary Social History and the Laboratory for the Study of the History of Left Youth, documenting the political, social, and cultural dimensions of this international mobilization.
The collection is predominantly composed of textual materials—periodicals, newspapers, documents, correspondence, announcements, and pamphlets—that record public discourse, political interventions, and communication networks of the time. At the same time, a significant body of printed and ephemeral material, including posters, programmes, cards, and stickers, captures the dynamics of political activism and movement culture. Photographs and a limited number of visual artworks further enrich the visual dimension of the collection, while a small number of three-dimensional objects and musical documents add additional layers of documentation.
Chronologically, the material falls within the second half of the 20th century, with a particular focus on the years 1967–1974, offering a coherent picture of European solidarity with the Greek anti-dictatorship movement. The collection constitutes a valuable resource for the study of political history, social movements, and transnational networks of support, highlighting the interconnection between the Greek case and the broader European and international context.
