Collections

The digital collections of the Chania Municipal Library comprise primary source materials documenting the historical development and the social, political, economic, and cultural life of Chania. The collection includes printed publications, photographic and archival materials, as well as the minutes of the Municipal Council, providing a valuable resource for the study of local history from the nineteenth century to the present. 

The digital collection presents 320 of the digitized exhibits from the Archaeological Museum of Chania, managed by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chania. The collection includes a broad range of artifacts from the Early Minoan to the Hellenistic period, including coins, vessels, sculptures, and tools. 

The collection serves as a valuable resource for studying the ancient material culture of Crete, featuring objects from the island's most significant archaeological landmarks, such as Aptera, the Platyvola cave, Knossos, Phaistos, and Kissamos.
