Από τις πρώτες υπολογιστικές μηχανές που χρησιμοποιήθηκαν για την εκτέλεση απλών αριθμητικών πράξεων. Οι σειρές από τα σφαιρίδια παριστάνουν μονάδες, δεκάδες, εκατοντάδες κοκ, δίνοντας τη δυνατότητα εκτέλεσης πράξεων πρόσθεσης και αφαίρεσης. Είναι άγνωστο το πότε άρχισε να χρησιμοποιείται ακριβώς. Ο κινέζικος άβακας, όπως αυτός που απεικονίζεται, άρχισε να χρησιμοποιείται μετά τον 2ο μ.Χ. αιώνα.
